Write About It Wednesdays: Laughing

I fully believe, and stand behind the quote that “laughter is the best medicine”. It can cure nearly anything, even if just for a moment. It makes us forget about the horrible things in the world and escape to a happier place. But, when I was thinking about laughter, something unsettling hit me. I don’t know when the last time I had a good, honest, heartbreak-curing laugh. A can’t breathe, tears rolling down my face laugh. The fact that I can’t remember means it has been far too long.

The routine and stress of everyday life has consumed my thoughts and has kept my mind focused on the more serious side to life. Now, don’t get me wrong. The serious stuff is important too. The world is filled with challenges and risks and peril. The news is littered with heartbreaking stories of tragedy. The positive stories get pushed to the side and will never be reported. Being constantly exposed to all of the negativity in the world makes it hard to see the positive side to life. When we are being spoon fed the bad, we forget what the good tastes like.

Thats why I think laughter is important. Why its the fireworks of our soul. It lights us up and shows us the good in the world. And thats why I think we should laugh more. Smile more. Enjoy the good things in life. Look for the positive articles on the news or in the paper. When your out in the business of your day, take a second to look around and take in the wonder of the world. Find something that will make you laugh and share it with the world. Laugh at yourself. Loosen up and have a good chuckle about all the little quirks that make you who you are.

I mean, have you ever felt worse after laughing?

Buenos tardes Dream Chasers!

Having a bad day? Bad week? Don’t worry. It’s normal. It happens to even the happiest people on this Earth. The important thing is to not let your day turn into a week, or you week turn into a month, year, or lifetime. Its natural to have a bad day, but you should have so many more good days than bad days. The sun is shining somewhere right? Instead of dwelling on the things that have not gone your way, focus on the things that have gone your way. Even if it is something simple as you got to school/work on time, you heard your favorite song on the radio, or that your morning wake up stretch (you all know the kind I am talking about) was particularly satisfying today.

Fake it till you make it.

If you feel a bad day coming on, try your hardest to be cheery. Your feelings often follow your actions, so if you deliberately act happy, you will often find yourself actually being happier. Don’t overlook your amazing capability to trick yourself into being happy!

Go out with friends.

If you are feeling down, grab a group of your good friends and go out and have a good time. Just make sure that you aren’t pushing your unhappiness onto your friends. Go out with friends so that you can forget all about your bad day, not so you can have a bad day with other people.

Take some time out of you day for you time.

While it is important to be with people you like when you are sad, it is also important to spend some time with yourself. Read a book, take a bath, write about your day. Remind yourself of all of the good days that you have had. Enjoy your own company and try to forget everything that made you sad. I find that if I blare some dance-y music and dance around my room I tend to feel a lot better.

Listen to music and be productive

Music heals. Artists tend to know exactly how you are feeling and they know how to explain it so much better than you do. While you listen to your favorite music, do something productive. Clean your room, or your kitchen, or even your desk. Declutter your life while you pour your heart into the music. If you’re not much of a cleaner, or you are OCD about keeping a clean living space, sit down with a piece of paper and a pen and draw. It doesn’t matter if you don’t consider yourself an artistic person, just doodle on the page.

Spend time outside. (Go for a walk).

Usually when I am having a rough week, I take a stroll around town or in the park. I can’t do this as often in the winter, because it is well…. winter. Sunshine automatically puts me into a better mood and there is no better feeling than the touch of the sun on your skin. If you like to run, go on a run. Do some yoga. Basically, get out of your chair and go move your body.

Live in the now.

Don’t dwell on the past because it has already happened. There is nothing you could have done or could do to change the past. Don’t think about the future. I know it is important to think about the future sometimes, but don’t let it become what makes you sad or anxious. There is no time like the present so smile and enjoy it!

Force yourself to laugh.

Its true when they say that laughter is the best medicine. Laugh to your hearts content. Watch a funny movie, YouTube video, or have a chat with your funniest friend. And on the plus side, laughing forces you to smile, and you have a beautiful smile.

Those are the methods that I usually use when I am just not feeling up to par. They have worked for me so far, and if you are having a bad day, I suggest trying out one of these things and see how it works for you. If you have a different way of making your day better, leave it in the comments below!

Tootlelie-dip! Have a wonderful rest of the week and I will talk to you again soon!

Stay positive!
